NELFUND Calls on Tertiary Institutions to Update Student Records

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has directed all accredited tertiary institutions across Nigeria to update and verify their students’ records ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session. This initiative is part of the Fund’s ongoing efforts to streamline its student loan scheme and ensure timely disbursement of loans to eligible students.

NELFUND emphasized that accurate and up-to-date student records are critical for processing loan applications efficiently. Institutions are required to upload students’ data, including academic and personal information, onto the NELFUND Student Verification Portal to facilitate seamless verification and reduce delays in loan approvals.

According to the Fund, the verification exercise is designed to prevent errors, duplication, and discrepancies that could impede students’ access to financial support. NELFUND also stressed that institutions failing to comply may affect their students’ eligibility for the loan program.

This call comes as part of NELFUND’s broader mandate to expand access to higher education by providing financial assistance to deserving students who might otherwise be unable to afford tuition and other educational expenses.

In addition, NELFUND urged stakeholders in the education sector to collaborate proactively to ensure that all student data is accurate, complete, and timely. The Fund reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s higher education system through effective and transparent loan management.

Students and educational institutions are encouraged to visit the official NELFUND portal regularly for updates on the verification process and to ensure compliance with the directives.
